All Stamford Residents Rally/Protest Tuesday 9/16

Updated: Sep 15

PROTEST AT 888 Washington Blvd. Govt. Center

Rally:  5:00pm – 6:30pm

Planning Board Public Hearing No. 2 on Adoption: 6:30 PM

Public Welcome to Attend

Battle Lines Drawn! Stamford Residents oppose the draft 2035 Comprehensive Plan:

  • Encourages overdevelopment and increased density by effectively rezoning of single family neighborhoods into multifamily neighborhoods

  • Promotes commercial and large Accessory Dwelling Units with no off-street parking

  • Affects Glenbrook, Belltown, Springdale, the Cove, Bulls Head, Turn of River/Newfield, the West Side, North Stamford, Westover and the lower Ridges

  • Ignores input of single-family homeowners

  • Limits or deletes parking without adequate infrastructure assessments or improvements

  • Violates City Charter by allowing out of state consultants and non-stakeholders to prepare Plan, rather than Planning Board

  • Unrealistically prioritizes streets for bicycles, ignoring increased car traffic

  • Does not guarantee existence of new affordable housing.

It may be technically correct that this Plan by itself does not rezone single-family neighborhoods. However, if this provision is included in the Comprehensive Plan, introduction of these multi-family housing types and small commercial establishments in single-family neighborhoods will undoubtedly be approved by both the Planning and Zoning Boards. As applications become submitted and approved, the rezoning will become a reality, neighborhood by neighborhood.
